In which format to submit the print file?

Print quality depends directly on file resolution and format. The vector format (AI, EPS, PDF) will always give the best result - the design remains sharp regardless of the size of the flag.

Formats Type Suitability for printing Note
.AI / .EPS Vector ★★★★ Best Scalable without quality loss.
.PDF (with vector) Vector ★★★★ Best Export from Illustrator "Save as PDF".
.TIFF / .PSD Raster ★★★ Good At least 300 DPI and 1:1 aspect ratio.
.PNG Grid ★★★ Satisfactory At least 300 DPI, convert to CMYK.
.JPG Grid ★ Weak Not suitable for printing.

Common mistake

A small logo (72 DPI) copied from a website is not suitable for printing. Always ask for the original file in vector format.

Colour choice and contrast - how to ensure legibility?

The banner must be readable from a distance.

✓ Do both
Use a maximum of 2-3 colours
High contrast: light/dark
Use the main brand colour
CMYK colour space in the print file
✕ Don't do this
Too many colours
Low contrast
RGB in print file
Neon colours as a primary colour

Designer recommendation

If your brand colours are light, add a strong darker background. This way, the flag will remain legible in bright outdoor light.

Placement of text and logo on the flag

The flag flies in the wind, so the message must be simple and visible at first glance.

Less text = better

Maximum 3-5 words. Logo + one sentence works best.

Logo on top

Place the main message in the top third, it is the most visible.

Large font

Use a bold font. Thin letters disappear when viewed from a distance.

Leave the edge area free

Leave a 3-5 cm margin at the edges to prevent important information from getting into the cutting or sewing margin.

Double-sided printing

For double-sided printing, the design must work from both directions. Make separate files if necessary.

Printing one step at a time

Follow these steps to ensure that the file goes to print without delays and quality loss.

1

1:1 story design

Avoid enlarging files before printing.
2

Convert colours to CMYK

RGB is for display, CMYK for printing.
3

Convert funds to contour

Avoid fund problems at the printer.
4

Add bleed

Leave a 3-5 cm margin at the edges for cutting.
